I've enjoyed writing for as long as I can remember. In my early days I fiddled around with fiction; for many years I wrote song lyrics (and had a fair amount of success with it, getting a number of songs recorded); in later years I wrote a lot of news and corporate stuff, which tended after some time to dry up my creative pen; now I've finally got a screenplay under my belt and have started again on the major fiction. Again, there just don't seem to be enough hours in the day to allow me to pursue it to the level that I'd really like.

When I have satisfactorily completed a reasonable amount of the fiction I'm working on, I'll post some samples here. That may be some time off, yet.

DESERT HEAT

I used to sit on doorsteps
And think up crazy lines
And pass the years through a liar's tears
A keyboard march of time
I used to walk the country
And sing up crazy tunes
A lazy march of days to pass
And weekends gone too soon

And desert heat, unlike the street
Waveforms miles away
Before the sun, a day's work done
The magpies call and cray
The long grass sweet, but desert heat
Will burn it all away

I used to climb the gum trees
And talk of foolish things
The swamp knows the childish woes
The ageing bard would sing
I used to wait for summer
And leave the world behind
A preacher kneels, a heartbeat feels
The anguished one reminds

And desert heat, unlike the street
